SC/ST Committee

Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) have been identified as the two most backward groups of Indian society. They include all the castes, races or tribes that have been socially, economically and educationally backward. The cell has been established to support and bring students from such communities into the mainstream.

The SC/ST Cell of the college was established in 2001 with the purpose of empowering SC/ST students. The college takes special interest in facilitating financial support to students from these communities through government agencies and other sources. Students are also encouraged to enroll in career orientation programmes that equip them with the necessary skills to choose suitable career opportunities.

Objectives

• To counsel and guide SC/ST students and help them manage academic and personal issues effectively.
• To ensure an environment where all such students feel safe and secure.
• To provide prompt counseling for emotional emergencies arising from campus-related events.
• To provide mechanisms to redress grievances of SC/ST students.
• To ensure protection and reservation as provided in the Constitution of India.
• To arrange special opportunities to enhance career growth.
• To create awareness regarding scholarship programmes offered by the State Government and UGC.
• To take follow-up measures to achieve the objectives and targets laid down by the Government of India and UGC.

Activities

• To collect reports and information regarding State Government and UGC orders on education, employment and welfare of SC/ST and OBC students.
• To circulate State Government and UGC decisions related to scholarship programmes.
• To communicate with students and motivate them for better future planning.

SC/ST Cell Committee

As per university guidelines, the college constitutes the SC/ST Cell Committee. The cell provides information and support to students belonging to SC and ST communities. Meetings are organized by the committee from time to time.
